The officially licensed, Backbone One – PlayStation Edition mobile controller is available now for $99.99, Sony and Backbone announced Thursday.
Inspired by the look and feel of the PS5 DualSense wireless controller, the Backbone One – PlayStation Edition comes with matching face buttons, colors, materials, and finishes catering to fans of mobile gaming, as well as those who stream PS4 and PS5 games via Remote Play. Backbone One – PlayStation Edition is compatible only with iPhones.
“The look and feel of the Backbone One – PlayStation Edition was brought to life by our design team in collaboration with the brilliant minds at PlayStation,” Backbone CEO Maneet Khaira said in a PlayStation.Blog post. “It feels right at home with the other products in the PS5 lineup, like the Pulse 3D headset, which you can connect directly to the Backbone One – PlayStation Edition.”
The Backbone One – PlayStation Edition is powered entirely by the iPhone it’s plugged into, meaning separate charging isn’t required. A 3.5mm headphone jack can be found at the bottom of its left grip, while a pass-through Lightning port is located on the right grip to allow for charging while playing.
PS5 and PS4 game streaming is done entirely through the PS Remote Play app, which is said to be heavily integrated with the Backbone App.
“Backbone One also works wonderfully with App Store games and other game streaming services that support controllers,” Khaira said, “including Genshin Impact, Fantasia, Call of Duty: Mobile and more. Players can download the Backbone App for a customized PlayStation experience. Inside the app, you’ll see various PlayStation integrations, such as custom glyphs representing the iconic PlayStation shapes and the ability to browse hundreds of game titles.”
