It can’t be stressed enough how much the Pittsburgh Penguins need to make some kind of move to help jump start something within the lineup.
It’s going to be a daily topic until the Penguins finally appear on a trade report and someone has been moved on from or acquired.
While fans continue to wait, they’re beginning to wonder if general manager Ron Hextall is asleep at the wheel.
It’s a fair assumption since the Penguins have been in need of some kind of shakeup for well over a month and they’ve gone unnoticed in most trade rumors.
Not only that, but one of Hextall’s biggest criticisms during his time as general manager of the Philadelphia Flyers was his hesitation with things.
While in the Flyers front office, Hextall would balk at trades or hold onto pieces for far too long and lose value.
We’re already starting to see the holding on the pieces part in Pittsburgh; The time to trade Brian Dumoulin was over the offseason, and now he’s cooked and won’t get a return.
Hextall also signed Jeff Carter to an unnecessary contract extension and now he looks to be over the hill.
So, where do the Penguins stand in the NHL’s rumor mill? Pretty silent, with nothing concrete.
The Penguins have been listed as making sense for a few players, but that’s it; just noticing that certain players could fit in Pittsburgh.
That’s not enough, though, there needs to be a lot more noise surrounding the Penguins and more than just that they’re ‘looking.’
As far as many are concerned, the Penguins can’t return to action with the same lineup they left with.
It’s a fine team, but it’s not enough to go anywhere; The bottom six needs all the help it can get and the noise around the goaltending duo needs to be quieted down.
