August 23 and 24 will forever be recognized as the two days to honor the late Lakers legend Kobe Bryant. Throughout the sports world, former Lakers and others within the basketball community took the two days to honor the Black Mamba on social media.
Lakers President Jeanie Buss shared a post from 2018 that featured a photo of her and Kobe embracing and a tweet emphasizing 8/24 should be, “declared the official holiday honoring him.”
Former teammate and two-time NBA champion Pau Gasol shared his remembrance on both days that featured a photo of two pals sitting in a trainer’s room and the other of Bryant in a No. 8 jersey high-fiving himself in a No. 24 jerseys.
Shaquille O’Neal commemorated his former teammate with an animated photo of Bryant donning angel wings.
Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar shared his memory of Bryant noting the photo he posted was, “one of my favorites.”
In addition to those who have been a part of the Lakers community, various teams around the NBA shared in the celebration of Kobe’s life and legacy.
Bryant was always an advocate for the WNBA and growing the sport of basketball among young girls, especially for his daughter Gianna (Gigi). Many WNBA stars have shared their admiration for Kobe, but especially Sabrina Ionescu of the New York Liberty, who always had a special connection with her mentor.
The Black Mamba may be gone, but his impact on the sport and his overall legacy will never be forgotten.
