It’s amateur week.
The Portage County Amateurs begin the series of four tournaments this week with the Kids Am teeing things up on Sunday followed by the Matt Mishler Junior Portage County Amateur on Monday and Tuesday and the 93rd Portage County Amateur concluding the month of July on the 29th and 30th .
A fixture on the golf calendar, the Kids Am is celebrating its ninth year welcoming junior golfers to their very first tournament. Kids as young as 3 have competed in the event enjoying four, six or nine holes with high school students helping the young golfers learn the rules and enjoy a great experience on the fairways.
Deadline for participation is Friday. Golfers compete on holes 19-27 at Sunny Hill Golf Course in Brimfield.
The 17th Matt Mishler Junior Amateur welcomes experienced golfers, both boys and girls, in several divisions including 12 and under, 13-15 and 16-19 with two days of competition at Windmill Lakes in Ravenna and Sunny Hill in Brimfield on July 24 and 25 Deadline for registration is Saturday.
Finally, the 93rd Portage County Amateur tees off at Windmill Lakes and Raccoon Hill on July 29 and July 30 with divisions for county residents, those outside of Portage County and women. The range of golfers includes high school to collegiate and adult recreational. Deadline for registration is July 27.

Immaculate Conception crowns champs
Immaculate Conception Parish in Ravenna hosted an annual golf scramble at Windmill Lakes Golf Course in Ravenna.
The winning team included Jackie Guiler, Spencer Townend, Joe Bogo and Mike Bogo.
The second- and third-place teams were led by Bill Braden and Trey Mann.
Aurora golfers snag titles
Max Devins and Nick Pollak, both of Aurora, earned victories on the Northern Ohio PGA series of tournaments in the past week.
Pollak, competing in the 13-15 age division at the NOPGA Junior event, fired 37-36 for a 73 18-hole round that bested Matthew Czenszak of Twinsburg’s round by four strokes. Pollak was 1 under to win his age division.
Devins, who will be a senior for the Greenmen in the fall and is an OHSAA state qualifier, won the boys 16-19 age division at Pine Hills Golf Course in Hinckley.
Devins finished his round at even-par with four birdies and four pars on the tough fairways at Pine Hills, always a competitive layout for the Division I district tournament leading to state.
Devins has competed in four events and finished in the top 10 of two of those events.
