Oxford alumnus stays out of NFL for less than 1 day

Released by the Houston Texans on Sunday, former Oxford High School standout Tae Davis signed with the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday.

Before adding Davis, the Las Vegas linebackers vying to back up the projected starting trio of Jayon Brown, Divine Deablo and Denzel Perryman had a collective five games of NFL experience after the Raiders placed Kyler Fackrell and Micah Kiser on injured reserve during training camp.

Davis spent the 2021 season on the Houston Texans’ injured reserve, but he played in 40 NFL regular-season games over the previous three seasons. In those games, Davis was on the field for 368 defensive snaps and 411 special-teams plays. He has also played in two NFL postseason games.

After recording a 100-tackle season for Oxford in 2013, Davis played at Chattanooga. He spent three seasons with the Mocs as a safety before moving to linebacker as a senior.

Davis made the New York Giants’ regular-season roster in 2018 as an undrafted rookie from Chattanooga. Waived four games into the 2019 season, he was claimed by the Cleveland Browns. Davis joined the Texans as a free agent on March 23, 2021.
