After winning the program’s first MIAA Div. 2 state championship last fall, Old Rochester’s golf team got to see how it measured up with the nation’s best during the National High School Golf Association National Championship in Frisco, Texas.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience for these kids,” said Old Rochester head coach Chris Cabe.
The Bulldogs finished tied for ninth overall out of 50 teams during the invite-only event held July 17-19 at the PGA Frisco campus.
“It was a really good run for the kids,” Cabe said. “They were ecstatic. If they couldn’t win it all, their ultimate goal was to be the best in New England and they finished tied with BC High for best in New England.”
Markus Pierre, Philip le Gassick, Peter le Gassick, Braden Yeomans and Gabe DeBlois represented Old Rochester.

After playing practice rounds for the first three days, the Bulldogs opened the three-year, stroke-play tournament on the Fields Ranch East, the most challenging of the three par-72 courses, according to Cabe.
Pierre and Philip le Gassick both shot 78s while Yeomans carded an 83 and DeBlois had a 91. Peter le Gassick shot a 92. The top four scores each day counted towards the team’s total score for the tournament.
“After day one, we were in 27th position,” Cabe said. “We knew we were in a pretty good spot after day one because we started on the toughest course.”
The Bulldogs jumped to 19th after the second day with Philip le Gassick (71), Pierre (72), Yeomans (75), Peter le Gassick (78) and DeBlois (80) playing the Tribute Golf Links.
