The Oaks Christian School boys golf team advanced to the state tournament by finishing third at the CIF/SCGA Southern California State Championship on Wednesday at Los Serranos Golf Course in Chino Hills.
Senior Nickolas Waldock led the way for the Lions, firing a 4-under-par 70 to tie for fourth overall. Freshman Graham Christopher shot a 2-under 72, freshman Max Emberson had an even-par 74, Jared Abercrombie shot a 2-over 76, and Nick Benton had an 80 as Oaks Christian finished with a team total of 372.
The Lions reached the SoCal state championship by placing third in the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 tournament and winning the SCGA Qualifying Tournament.
Tesoro won the tournament with a 361 and Torrey Pines was second with a 365. Collin Li of Torrey Pines was the medalist with an 8-under 66.
The state championship will be held Wednesday, May 31, at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.
Three local golfers came up short in their bid to reach state. Gavin McCormick of Thousand Oaks shot a 1-over 75 to tie for 37th, Brady McHenry of Buena shot a 4-over 78 to tie for 69th, and Trey Turo of Hillcrest Christian-Thousand Oaks had an 84 to tie for 99th.
