NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX 16 GB Module launches worldwide with 100 TOPS AI performance

NVIDIA has launched the Jetson Orin NX 16 GB Module, not to be confused with the Jetson Orin Nano that the company debuted in September. For reference, NVIDIA claimed that the Jetson Orin Nano series would be available this month, but it has brought the Jetson Orin NX 16 GB Module to market first instead.

As NVIDIA’s marketing render shows, the system-on-module (SoM) measures 69.6 x 45 mm and is compatible with carrier boards via the 260-pin SO-DIMM connector. An 8-core ARM Cortex-A78E CPU powers the Jetson Orin NX 16 GB Module, which has 2 MB L2 and 4 MB L3 caches. Additionally, the SoMs RAM utilizes the LPDRR5 standard on a 128-bit bus for a 102.4 GB/s bandwidth.

Moreover, NVIDIA has included an Ampere-derived GPU that has 1,024 cores, 32 Tensor cores and helps the SoM achieve up to 100 TOPS of AI performance (INT8). In comparison, the Jetson AGX Orin offers up to 200 TOPS AI performance (INT8) with the same CPU but a more powerful GPU and double the RAM capacity. Incidentally, the Jetson Origin NX 16 GB Module supports external NVMe SSDs but lacks any built-in storage.

The Jetson Origin NX 16 GB Module is now orderable in multiple markets, including the US. NVIDIA’s press release states that the SoM should be available for US$599, but its website lists the device for US$699. By contrast, the Jetson Orin Nano should start at US$199 for the 4 GB edition and US$299 for the 8 GB version.
