NVIDIA AD103-301 GPU confirmed by Gainward
NVIDIA to introduce new variants of Ada GPUs.
Gainward has become the first company to confirm a new variant of AD103 GPU. An updated silicon labeled as AD103-301 brings minor changes to end users, but will help board partners in lowering the cost.
The first rumors about XX0/XX1 GPU variants emerged last week with the updated RTX 4070 non-Ti specs. NVIDIA had informed board partners that two GPU variants will be available for this SKU. This was later corroborated by HKEPC who provided further information on said AD104-25X GPU variants for this upcoming GeForce model:
AD104-250 / 251 = GeForce RTX 4070
AD104-250 requires an comparator circuit, AD104-251 no need, GeForce RTX 4080 will change to AD103-301 soon. @VideoCardz— HKEPC (@hkepcmedia) January 9, 2023
We can now confirm that board partners have indeed been informed about two GPU specs for the RTX 4070. The ‘251’ GPU will enter mass production a few weeks after ‘250’, and it will require ‘a few less components’, claims our source. In the end this should lower the cost of the GPU, but not significantly.
This change has already been implemented for the RTX 4080 model which is shipping with either AD103-300 or AD103-301 GPUs, both said to offer the same performance and capabilities, but they are a new design that requires changes to the PCB.
Gainward confirms that both variants feature the same clocks, TDP and GPU configuration. Furthermore, the company did not release a new revision of existing cards (such as we had with LHR models), meaning that the AD103-300 and 301 are essentially the same GPUs.
