After an overtime loss in Marquette on Friday night, No. 18 Michigan Tech (9-4-3) makes the 100-mile trek north on US 41 on Saturday to return to MacInnes Student Ice Arena in Houghton for the back end of their weekend home-and-home with archrival Northern Michigan (10- 7-0). Ryland Mosley is the top scorer for the Huskies with seven goals and 17 points, while Kyle Kukkonen has six tallies. Blake Pietila does the bulk of the goaltending and has a 2.04 goals-against average and a .928 save percentage. AJ Vanderbeck powers the offense for the Wildcats with 10 goals and 20 points while David Keefer has lit the lamp nine times. Beni Halasz has a 2.13 GAA and .918 save percentage in net.

On Friday night at NMU’s Berry Events Center, the Wildcats fought back from 2-0 and 3-2 deficits to record a 4-3 win in overtime. Kash Rasmussen scored twice for Tech in the first period before Northern knotted it up in the second with goals from Joey Larson and Keefer.
In the third period, Logan Pietila scored for the Huskies at 1:13 but Josh Zinger got the tying goal with just 1:31 left in regulation. In the overtime, Alex Frye ended it with a shorthanded goal 3:40 into the extra session.
The win by Northern Michigan evened the all-time series between the Upper Peninsula rivals at 78-78-13 and also snapped a three-game winning streak in the rivalry for Michigan Tech.
