No. 2 Blue Devils to Open Exhibition Action Monday at Georgia

DURHAM – Less than a week after opening preseason practice, the second-ranked Duke women’s soccer team will hit the road for the first of two exhibition games this week. The Blue Devils travel to Athens, Ga., for a contest Monday, Aug. 8 at 6 pm, at UGA Soccer Stadium at Turner Soccer Complex.

It marks the second straight season the Blue Devils and Bulldogs have met on the pitch, with Duke collecting a 2-0 win last year in Durham. Duke registered two second half goals from Delaney Graham and Tess Boadewhile Ruthie Jones and Holly Stam combined for the shutout in goal.

In regular season action over the history of the program, the Blue Devils lead the overall series with a 5-2 ledger with the Bulldogs.

Georgia is coming off a season where the Bulldogs collected an 11-5-3 ledger, but enters the first year under the direction of new head coach Keidane McAlpine.

Duke will close exhibition play by hosting 12th-ranked South Carolina on Friday, Aug. 12. The contest will start at 6 pm, at Koskinen Stadium and will be free admission.

Head coach Robbie Church and the Blue Devils return eight starters from a season ago, including 18 letterwinners off a 2021 squad that registered 16 victories, made a trip to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament and finished the season ranked No. 5 nationally. Duke collected a 16-4-1 ledger last season, while turning in a 7-2-1 mark in ACC action.
