No. 1 Women’s Track Blazevica Finishes as Runner-Up at Tech Multis Open

LUBBOCK, Texas – Kristine Blazevica finished as the 2023 Texas Tech Multi pentathlon runner-up with a score of 4,224 points in her first multis meet of the season.

The two-time Big 12 pentathlon champion began the competition setting a new personal best in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.46, the second-best time of the day. She later added two top-10 finishes in the high jump finishing ninth after clearing 1.69m (5-5.25) and was 10th in the shot put with a heave of 12.11m (39-8.75).

The three-time All-American sat in fifth place with 2,500 points after the first three events. The back-half of the competition saw Blazevica record a season-best jump of 5.97m (19-7) in the long jump to help her gain one spot in the overall standings.

Blazevica ended the competition winning the 800m dash with a time of 2:15.61, nearly four seconds faster than the second-place finisher.

Not only is Blazevica the current Texas pentathlon record holder with 4,402 points, but she now holds seven of the top-10 scores in school history. Thursday’s score is the fourth-best in UT history.

Leo Neugebauer finished day one of the heptathlon in second place with 3,491 points, just 241 points off of first. The four-time All-American began the day running the 60m in 7.01 seconds, just .03 seconds off his personal best. He also added a seasonal best mark in the long jump at 7.43m (24-4.5) and had the second-best throw in shot put at 16.04m (52-7.5). He concluded the day with a fifth-place finish in high jump, clearing 2.04m (6-8.75).

Neugebauer will conclude the heptathlon with the 60m hurdles, pole vault and the 1000m run slated to start at 11:30 am
