The Ontario Tech men’s soccer team bounced back in a big way from their first conference loss of the season last week with a weekend sweep in OUA action, highlighted by a commanding 4-0 win over the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday.

Ridgeback soccer players swept the school’s players of the week as well, with Abdul Hamad, who scored the game-winning goal Sunday against Nipissing, earning the Male Athlete of the Week honors while goalkeeper Alicia Chisholm took the weekly honors on the women’s side.

Chisholm recorded back-to-back shutouts as her Ridgeback squad posted back-to-back 0-0 draws on the weekend against Laurentian (Saturday) and Toronto Metropolitan (Sunday).

The Ridgebacks men’s team – ranked ninth in the nation and now 7-1 on the season – was all over Laurentian early, opening the scoring in the sixth minute when Adam Klimek found the back of the net and doubling their lead in the 37th minute when Brolin Mashuhara scored on a header from a perfect Alessandro Prataviera cross.

Chris Campoli, with his league-leading 10th of the season on a penalty kick, rounded out the first half scoring for the Ridgebacks and Matthew Perovic added the final tally in the second half. Matthew Mattila earned the shutout.

The team was back at it Sunday and Hamad was the difference maker as Ontario Tech got by Nipissing 1-0 for their second straight clean sheet.

Hamad scored the winner in the 53rd minute with the Oshawa school outshooting Nipissing 8-3. Kevon Grant got the shutout.

The men’s team is back in action Friday when they visit the Carleton Ravens in Ottawa. The women will travel with them as they have a date Friday against the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
