NHL selling rideable Zambonis for kids

A release from the league says the new toy will allow kids who are “mesmerized” by the machines to “resurface around the house, in their driveway, and at their local street hockey rink or neighborhood playground.”

It’s the start of a new National Hockey League (NHL) season and the league is partnering with the Zamboni company to provide kids the opportunity to have a machine of their very own.

The ‘Kool Karz NHL Zamboni Ride-On Toy’ is a collaboration between the NHL, the Zamboni company and the Kool Karz Playground company, making rideable replicas of the ice resurfacing machines for kids aged three to eight-years-old.

A release from the league says the new toy will allow kids who are “mesmerized” by the machines to “resurface around the house, in their driveway, and at their local street hockey rink or neighborhood playground.”

The 22 lbs toy has been designed as an “authentic replica,” featuring the Zamboni machines “unique” horn sound. There are also working headlights, a Bluetooth speaker and a “snow collection tank” for storage, the release reads. The logos of each of the 32 NHL teams can also be emblazoned on it.

Zamboni company brand manager Paula Coony says the product has been “decades in the making.”

“There is a pent-up demand. We’ve had people from around the world inquire about a ride-on Zamboni machine toy and we’re so excited to finally have found the right manufacturer to work with on this project,” she said.

There has been no shortage of reaction to the announcement of the product, with many online envious it wasn’t available during their childhood.

“Now make an adult sized one,” one tweet reads. “Didn’t Canada have these already????,” another writes.

Others posted how the toy will make a good Christmas gift for kids this year.

The kid’s toy is currently listed at $399 Canadian and is available starting Wednesday, Oct. 12.
