NHL Betting Odds and Predictions: Colorado Raises a Banner

The NHL has an action-packed slate of games on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2022. With so many games there is so much to discuss when it comes to NHL betting odds and predictions.

Tonight’s games include another set of season openers. After the two great games fans saw on Tuesday, Wednesday will surely be another treat.

Tonight we have the defending Stanley Cup Champions raising their championship banner. We also have great matchups in places like Edmonton and Carolina, where fans will see new faces in new places for the first time during the regular season. Plus, who doesn’t love an original six-matchup like the Leafs and Canadiens to get the season going?

NHL Betting Odds and Predictions: Colorado Raises a Banner

Columbus Blue Jackets vs Carolina Hurricanes

Matchups

Columbus Blue Jackets

0-0-0

Carolina Hurricanes

0-0-0

Wednesday, Oct. 12

7 PM ET

Spread: -1.5 (CAR)
Moneyline: CAR -260 CBJ +210
Total: Over/Under 6

The Blue Jackets improved their team this offseason by bringing in a player like Johnny Gaudreau in free agency. Gaudreau has the most expensive contract on the team and is expected to lead the group on the ice. While Carolina is heavily favored, this is a game I would avoid just with the uncertainty surrounding some of the Blue Jackets additions this offseason, they could surprise people tonight.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs Montreal Canadiens

Matchups

Toronto Maple Leafs

0-0-0

Montreal Canadiens

0-0-0

Wednesday, Oct. 12

7 PM ET

Spread: -1.5 (TML)
Moneyline: TML -280 MON +225
Total: Over/Under 6.5

Tonight we get our first sight of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens this season. For Toronto, it is a new year with a new netminder, so seeing how the Leafs’ goaltending does tonight will be big. On the other side of things, this will be the first showing of Juraj Slafkovský in the NHL. While Toronto is favored, I think I would pick the Canadiens as they are kicking off a new season.

Boston Bruins vs Washington Capitals

Matchups

Boston Bruins

0-0-0

Washington Capitals

0-0-0

Wednesday, Oct. 12

7 PM ET

Spread: -1.5 (WAS)
Moneyline: WAS -146 BOS +122
Total: Over/Under 6

The Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals should be a pretty even matchup tonight. Both teams are nearing the end of their run as playoff threats, but still believe they have gas left in the tank to succeed this season. The bet I would take here is the over six goals, purely because I think everyone wants to see Alex Ovechkin get his goal-scoring start early this season!

Chicago Blackhawks vs Colorado Avalanche

Matchups

Chicago Blackhawks

0-0-0

Colorado Avalanche

0-0-0

Wednesday, Oct. 12

9:30 PM ET

Spread: -2.5 (COL)
Moneyline: COL -450 CHI +340
Total: Over/Under 6.5

The Colorado Avalanche are raising their Stanley Cup banner tonight for their 2022 Stanley Cup. They welcome the rebuilding Chicago Blackhawks to get their season started. Teams raising a banner sometimes fall in their first game, but there is a reason the Avalanche are favored so much in this matchup.

The Avalanche are the better team on paper and this is the most favored matchup we have seen so far this season. Because this is a banner night for the Avs, I would stay away from the moneyline and take the over with the untested goaltending on both sides.

Seattle Kraken vs Anaheim Ducks

Matchups

Seattle Kraken

0-0-0

Anaheim Ducks

0-0-0

Wednesday, Oct. 12

10 PM ET

Spread: -1.5 (ANA)
Moneyline: ANA -125 SEA +104
Total: Over/Under 6

The Seattle Kraken and Anaheim Ducks are both trying to get this season started off on the right note. With the addition of John Klingberg this offseason, I think there is a good reason the Ducks are favored in this one.

Vancouver Canucks vs Edmonton Oilers

Matchups

Vancouver Canucks

0-0-0

Edmonton Oilers

0-0-0

Wednesday, Oct. 12

10 PM ET

Spread: -1.5 (EDM)
Moneyline: EDM -188 VAN +155
Total: Over/Under 6.5

Edmonton and Vancouver are two teams in the Pacific with playoff aspirations. To me, this game is all about seeing new Oilers goaltender Jack Campbell in action. Edmonton has aspirations to go all the way this season and it starts tonight. With McDavid and Draisaitl back and healthy, I am picking the Oilers in this game.
