NHL best bets today (Expect a low scoring night)

Today is the second last day we have to bet on the NHL before the All-Star break, so let’s make the most of it.

The Blues blew it in the 3rd period for us last night, but with three games tonight, we have a good chance to get back on track. But, I need to apologize in advance for my picks for tonight. If you don’t like betting the UNDER, you’re going to hate my three best bets.

Spoiler alert: I’m betting the UNDER in all three games.

NHL best bets record-to-date

NHL best bets today

  • Kings/Hurricanes UNDER 6 (-110)
  • Senators/Canadiens UNDER 6.5 (-115)
  • Capitals/Blue Jackets UNDER 6.5 (-110)

Kings/Hurricanes UNDER 6 (-110)

The Carolina Hurricanes have become the best defensive team in the NHL over the last 10 games, sporting an expected goals against of 2.33, the best mark in the league over that stretch. They’re also allowing the second fewest high-danger scoring chances per game at 10.91.

Meanwhile, the Kings have had some offensive issues as of late. They’re averaging only 2.52 goals per game over their last 10, which ranks 20th in the NHL.

Instead of laying the juice on the Hurricanes, I’ll back the UNDER.

Senators/Canadiens UNDER 6.5 (-115)

This game will serve as the second leg of a home-and-home for these two teams. They played in Ottawa on Saturday, and the final score was 5-0 in favor of the Sens. I cashed the UNDER in that game and I see no reason not to make the same bet tonight.

The Senators are dead last in shooting percentage over their last 10 games, scoring on only 6.01 percent of their shots on goal. The Canadiens aren’t much better with a shooting percentage of 7.41 percent in the same stretch.

As a result, the two teams are combining for 4.02 goals per game over the last few weeks, well below the set total for tonight. I’ll take the UNDER once again.

Capitals/Blue Jackets UNDER 6.5 (-110)

The Washington Capitals have been a low-scoring team over the past few weeks. Over their last 10 games, they’re scoring only 2.14 goals per game while allowing only 2.93 goals per game, for an average combined total of 5.07 goals.

The Blue Jackets have had issues between the pipes, but their offense has also stumbled, averaging only 2.31 goals over their last 10 contests.

At 6.5, I think the UNDER is the play in this game as well.
