It’s been a difficult NFL season for Baker Mayfield and his wife, Emily.
Baker was demoted to the third string on the Panthers’ quarterback depth chart recently. He then requested a release, which Carolina granted.
The good news is Baker, 27, is getting a fresh start. The Los Angeles Rams claimed the veteran quarterback on waivers this week.
Emily reacted to what’s been a crazy week for her and her husband in a recent Instagram story.
“Feeling grateful tonight,” Emily wrote. “For the whirlwind, the chaos, the craziness. I’m thankful for the opportunity to walk alongside my bff for this once in a lifetime rollercoaster ride.
“I’m so thankful for our time in Charlotte. I met some REALLY incredible people and fell in love with an amazing city. You will certainly see more of us CLT!
“As for LA…. I’m ready for you! It’s been too long. I’m a PROUD Nebraska girl, but LA certainly holds a chunk of my heart too. It’ll be good to be back!
“And lastly, Bake, I’m one proud wife kid! It’s been the weirdest, most confusing, challenging, soul-searching year of my life. But the important thing is, we’ve done it together and with God at our center I’m really proud of where we are, and where we’re headed. Thankful for the man you are today, and how you handle adversity with nothing but grace! Can’t wait to cheer you on #17! Go Rams! “
Emily and Baker Mayfield have been married since the summer of 2019. They’ve been through a lot together, but this may be their most difficult year yet.
The good thing is that they have each other, which is important in times like this.

Hopefully Baker’s fresh start in Los Angeles is exactly what he and Emily need to get life back on track.
The Rams take on the Raiders on Thursday night. It’s still unclear if Baker will play.
