NFL Week 15 schedule changes: Dolphins-Bills, Commanders-Giants headed to prime time

Three NFL games will be played on Saturday, Dec. 17: Colts–Vikings, Ravens–Browns and Dolphins–Bills. The Giants vs. Commanders game has been flexed to close out the Sunday slate, the NFL announced Monday. Here’s what you need to know:

  • The scheduling of three games on Dec. 17 is not a new development, just the selection of which three games will air that day.
  • The Giants tied the Commanders in Week 13 and will rematch on “Sunday Night Football.” The Raiders-Patriots game, which was scheduled for the primetime broadcast, will move to Sunday afternoon.
  • The Dec. 17 games will air on NFL Network starting at 1 pm ET (Colts-Vikings), 4:30 pm ET (Ravens-Browns) and 8:15 pm ET (Dolphins-Bills).

Why the NFL changed its Week 15 schedule

In 2006, the NFL implemented what it calls a “flexible scheduling” procedure for Sunday Night Football. The flexible schedules ensured quality matchups on Sunday night in certain weeks and gave teams a chance to play their way onto prime time, per the league.

The NFL announced earlier this year that three of five designated matchups will be played on Saturday, with the remainder to be played on Sunday, in Week 15.
