The NFL has very specific rules and regulations regarding its uniforms and the league will not hesitate to hand out heavy fines to any player who breaks those rules. However, it looks like the league might need to spend a little time making sure the players are breaking the rules before dishing out fines.
This week, San Francisco 49ers safety George Odum received a hefty $5,305 fine after the league alleged that Odum’s pants failed to cover his knee area during the team’s recent preseason contest against the Minnesota Vikings. The only problem is, Odum claims his knees were covered – and he’s even got photos as proof.
So I got fined 5k.. yeah The NFL something else’s. Talking about my knees NOT covered. Where? pic.twitter.com/Nn9CQpc3N8

“So I got fined 5k.. yeah The NFL something else’s. Talking about my knees NOT covered. Where?” Odum said in a Tweet.
Based on the picture Odum also shared, the Niners’ safety definitely has a case. His knees are indeed completely covered – more so than even his teammate in the background of the photo. It’s unclear whether or not Odum’s knees were exposed at a different time during the game, but the photo he shared does appear to clear his name.
Given his evidence, Odum will almost certainly try to appeal his fine. And there’s a good chance he wins.
