A big day of football will ring in New Year’s Day as usual, but since it lands on a Sunday this year, the NFL will be in the spotlight instead of college football. Week 17 will bring 14 games, most of which have playoff implications.

Half of the games on Sunday will be intra-divisional games, plus the Chargers will “host” the cross-town rival Rams. Several of the games could be playoff previews, and you can expect at least a few more postseason tickets to be punched.
So if you’re wonderingWhat NFL games are on today?” know this: There are 14 scheduled for today, Sunday, Jan. 1.

NFL Games on TV Today
Arizona at Atlanta, 1 p.m. on FOX/live stream on fuboTV
The big stakes in this game are related to draft position, since only one game separates them in the standings. Heading into the day, Arizona is slated to pick fourth and Atlanta would be picking sixth.
Chicago at Detroit, 1 p.m. on FOX/live stream on fuboTV
The Lions’ playoff hopes took a hit with last week’s loss, but it’s hard to pick a better opponent than the listless Bears. Still, Justin Fields is talented enough to make any game interesting, especially against a defense as weak as Detroit’s.
Jacksonville at Houston, 1 p.m. on CBS/live stream on fuboTV
The Jaguars have miraculously wound up atop the AFC South, but that division crown will come down to next week’s game against the Titans regardless of how this one goes. Instead, this game will be a fascinating look at how well (or poorly) a rebuild can come in a few years.
Denver at Kansas City, 1 p.m. on CBS/live stream on fuboTV
The Broncos have mercifully ended the Nathaniel Hackett experiment, but that just means that interim head coach Jerry Rosburg has the hardest possible first assignment. Covering this 12.5-point spread, the highest of the day, would be a start.
Miami at New England, 1 p.m. on CBS/live stream on fuboTV
The final AFC wild card may well come down to these teams, although the Dolphins can eliminate their rivals with a fifth straight win in this series. Miami will be starting Teddy Bridgewater after Tua Tagovailoa suffered another concussion.
Indianapolis at New York Giants, 1 p.m. on CBS/live stream on fuboTV
The Giants can punch their postseason ticket for the first time since 2016 with a win, which seems quite likely since the Colts have lost five in a row. They’ll need quite a big win to turn their minus-28 point differential positive before the end of the season, though.
New Orleans at Philadelphia, 1 p.m. on FOX/live stream on fuboTV
The Eagles can finally clinch the NFC’s No. 1 seed with a win, which would also end the Saints’ slim playoff hopes. Gardner Minshew will be looking for his first win since Week 13 of the 2021 season if Jalen Hurts cannot play.
Carolina at Tampa Bay, 1 p.m. on FOX/live stream on fuboTV
A win would clinch the NFC South for the Buccaneers, but a loss would ensure that the division champion has a losing record. A Panthers win wouldn’t be a shock, especially after they dealt Tampa Bay a 21-3 defeat in Week 7 under interim head coach Steve Wilks.
Cleveland at Washington, 1 p.m. on FOX/live stream on fuboTV
The Commanders’ playoff hopes are dwindling, so they’re turning back to Carson Wentz. Perhaps the boom-or-bust quarterback can light a fire under an offense that hasn’t surpassed 20 points since Nov. 20.
San Francisco at Las Vegas, 4:05 pm on FOX/live stream on fuboTV
The Raiders are effectively moving on from Derek Carr as they will start Jarrett Stidham in this game. Worth noting that this is the first regular-season game between these franchises since the Raiders moved to Las Vegas. They did, of course, meet for a preseason game in 2021 in the Bay Area.
New York Jets at Seattle, 4:05 pm on FOX/live stream on fuboTV
Geno Smith has a chance to pad his free agent résumé against his former team as these 7-8 squads look to keep their postseason chances alive. The Jets will be turning back to Mike White after another disastrous Zach Wilson performance.
Minnesota at Green Bay, 4:25 p.m. on CBS/live stream on fuboTV
Once again, the Vikings are underdogs in a divisional game despite already clinching the NFC North. Minnesota can’t keep its undefeated record in one-score games alive forever, can it? To do so this week, they’ll have to take down a highly motivated Aaron Rodgers.
Los Angeles Rams at Los Angeles Chargers, 4:25 p.m. on CBS/live stream on fuboTV
This game was flexed out of the SNF slot without too much at stake. The Chargers have already clinched a postseason spot and are almost assured of the No. 5 or 6 seeds. The Rams don’t even have their own first-rounder, so this is really another Baker Mayfield audition.
Pittsburgh at Baltimore, 8:20 p.m. (SNF) on NBC/live stream on fuboTV
A great rivalry with playoff implications and history on the line? Sign us up. Lamar Jackson won’t be playing, but Steelers-Ravens games have almost always been one-score affairs lately no matter who is under center.
