In what was arguably the best win of his entire career, the former no. 1 overall pick drove 98 yards in 9 plays against the Las Vegas Raiders for the last-gasp win.

The 27-year-old – in a performance reminiscent of his debut for Cleveland back in 2018 – received the ball back on his own 2-yard line with 1:45 left in the game (down six points and fresh out of time-outs ), before marching down the field to find Van Jefferson for a 23-yard touchdown pass to seal a 17-16 win.
The win was made even more impressive by the fact Mayfield only joined the team less than 48 hours ago, after being released by the Carolina Panthers, with no one expecting Mayfield to even play as much as he did, let alone outplay Derek Carr.
“It’s been a wild 48 hours,” Mayfield said afterwards on Amazon’s broadcast.
Rams head coach Sean McVay went with John Wolford at quarterback to start the game (he only lasted one drive), before running with Mayfield the rest of the way.
The expectation is that Matthew Stafford will return from his concussion at some point in the coming off-season to reclaim his starting job, but after shocking the league with his performance on debut for LA (completing 22/35 for 230 yards and 1 TD) , Baker will be hoping to recapture his best form down the stretch playing under an offensive genius like McVay.
Asked where the game ranks in his career, Mayfield replied: “This is up there to be honest with you,” he said. “I didn’t think it was going to play out like this, but I am sure happy we covered the two-minute operation, my goodness.”
