A year of fundraising led by a golf captain has come to a close, after raising over a thousand pounds.
Last Thursday seniors’ captain Rock Hastings brought his year of fundraising for Beaumond House Hospice Care to a close with the annual Newark Golf Club seniors day competition.
54 golfers took to the greens for the final event of Rock’s year — which has raised more than £1,880 for the hospice.
Rock said: “I am delighted to have been able to support the work of Beaumond House, our local hospice. Many club members have been supported by the services offered at the hospice and I am delighted to be able to donate such a wonderful amount at the end of my year as captain.”
The day was sponsored by Pratt and Gelsthorpe, for the second year, who offered a brand new Peugeot 208 for anyone who achieved a hole in one, on the day, at the 15th hole.
No-one was successful this year. The nearest drive, coming from Roy Williams, was within five feet of the pin.
Richard Gelsthorpe, managing director at Pratt and Gelsthorpe in Newark, said: “We are very pleased to be associated with this event again, Beaumond House is an important cause to us and by supporting the senior event at Newark Golf Club we can support both the club and its fundraising for the hospice.”
Head of fundraising and marketing at Beaumond House, Cathy Lowe, added: “Thank you so very much to Rock and all Newark Golf Club seniors who have supported Beaumond House for many years, it means a huge amount to us.
“We understand that many people are facing huge challenges at this time and a donation like this from local people is very much appreciated. The on-going support of Pratt and Gelsthorpe is so valuable to us and our thanks go to Richard too for the many ways he contributes to our work.”
Jim Heffernan will take over from Rock as senior captain at Newark Golf Club in mid-November.
