Rangers at Devils projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (18-6-5, 2.43 GAA, .917 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Vitek Vanecek (14-5-2, 2.31 GAA, .914 SV%, 2 SO)

Shesterkin turned aside 20 of the 23 shots he faced against the Hurricanes last time out, kicking off the 2023 calendar year on a high note. That win follows up an impressive December which saw him register a 7-2-2 record, 2.14 GAA and .927 SV% in 11 starts during the month.

Vanecek also kicked off the new year on a high note, allowing just one lone goal on 33 shots in a 5-1 road win against the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday. Unlike Shesterkin above, Vanecek had a dismal December record-wise, going just 2-3-2 with a 2.86 GAA and .885 SV% in 8 starts and 9 appearances.

The RANGERS (+110) are a decent play as short ‘dogs in this quick jaunt across the Hudson River to Newark.

The Blueshirts have picked up 11 victories in the past 14 games overall, while going 7-2 in the previous 9 road outings.

The Devils (-130) have dropped each of the past 8 games at home, while going just 3-10 in the past 13 games overall, while cashing in just 1 of the past 6 games inside the Metropolitan Division.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Rangers +1.5 (-240) will cost you nearly 2 1/2 times your potential return, if you’d like a little insurance and don’t trust New York straight up. That’s too expensive, and there is no value there.

Over/Under

UNDER 5.5 (+110) is worth a look at plus-money, but go lightly.

Vanecek has been very giving lately, although Shesterkin isn’t likely to yield very much.
