Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson has been one of the key components on the “new-look” Nets team with regards to being a big part of the team winning/losing games. From the way that it has been since Johnson got to Brooklyn, when he plays well, like he did in Saturday’s win over the Miami Heat, Brooklyn win. Johnson is that important to the Nets’ success so the vice versa result happens as well.
In Sunday’s 119-106 loss to the Orlando Magic, Johnson had 10 points, but those points came on 4-of-10 shooting from the field and 1-of-5 shooting from behind the three-point line. Johnson’s defense was solid given the matchup with Magic forward Franz Wagner, but in a game where no one on the Nets had it going outside of Mikal Bridges and Cam Thomas, it was one of those situations where Johnson needed to be better on the offensive end. .
Johnson went 1-for-5 from the field in the second half against the Magic and it seems like the entire offense floundered at the same time. It became clear in the second half that Brooklyn ran out of gas when you consider that everyone except Bridges went 2-of-26 from three-point land and that is something that will lose Brooklyn every game. Here’s how Johnson reacted to the loss to the Magic:
“I agree (about the team needing to be more ready and prepared). I mean, they really kind of controlled the energy of the game. And, you know, we were set behind a little bit and it’s part of the reason why we lost. Not making any excuses. It’s part of the NBA.”
