Nelson Asofa-Solomona flick pass, Brandon Smith, Kurt Capewell try, Broncos vs Storm, Craig Bellamy, Round 23

Brandon Smith revealed the hilarious aftermath of Nelson Asofa-Solomna’s doomed flick pass that gifted the Broncos one of the easiest tries Kurt Capewell will ever score.

The 12th minute try to Capewell in the Storm’s 60-12 win over the Broncos came from a woeful flick pass from the Storm enforcer that found no one.

The ball was headed over the sideline before Xavier Coates tried to keep the ball in play only to offer up a dolly of a catch for Capewell to stroll through and score one of the easiest tries of his career.

“That’s not a nice moment, oh it is going to be a try,” Dan Ginnane said on Fox League.

“It is a catastrophe and it is Kurt Capewell. He can’t believe it.

“Extraordinary, one bad pass after another and the Broncos are gifted a try.”

Cooper Cronk played plenty of games under Craig Bellamy and revealed that he would never be in one of his Storm playbooks.

“Well, well, well, Nelson Asofa-Solomona set up the first try with a flick pass, but have a look at this,” Cronk said.

“This is a no, no in terms of the Melbourne Storm. A flick pass out the back without looking.

“Coates tries to keep the ball alive and Capewell is Johnny on the spot.

“Nelson Asofa-Solomona, wow!”

Greg Alexander was in shock as to why the Storm enforcer felt the need to produce a flick pass in an all-time brain snap.

“That is a classic example of a try against the run of play in extraordinary circumstances,” Alexander said.

“Asofa-Solomona, no reason for the flick pass there. It was a straight line Brisbane defence.

“When Xavier Coates threw the ball back inside there were three Brisbane players there waiting for it.

“Crazy stuff there from Asofa-Solomona.”

Smith revealed on Triple M that he was laughing when he returned under the posts because he had never seen anything like it on a footy field.

“When I went back to the tryline to the huddle with the team I couldn’t do anything but laugh,” Smith said on Triple M.

“I’d never witnessed something like that in my life. I don’t think Craig was too happy when I told him I was laughing.”

One thing is for sure neither Smith nor his Storm teammates will let Asofa-Solomona forget about the pass for a long time to come.
