NBA Style Rankings: Letterman jackets, fur coats and additional fashion risks

  • by

We’re officially two months into the NBA season, and we’re seeing regular faces in the style rankings but also getting a steady dose of newcomers each week. The style around the league has never been more promoted by the individual teams, players and accounts dedicated to NBA fashion. This past week specifically had a great mix of dressier outfits, as well as more casual, relaxed looks.

Without further ado, let’s get into this week’s rankings:

Booker went with the baggy, cozy, neutral look and it’s great. The All-Star has become known for his clothes being on the baggier side, in addition to his love for Chuck Taylors. It’s all on display here with the fuzzy quarter-zip sweater and pants.

Book went with slightly different off-whites for the jacket and pants. The forest green Chucks add some color to the fit — and we can’t forget the shades.

Love headed to the team bus in an Intarsia Knit New York sweater that could be worn on several occasions. The NBA champion is also wearing a denim shirt under his sweater, which is a lighter shade than his jeans.

And you can never go wrong with a fresh pair of all-white Nike Air Force 1s.

It must be that time of year, because the long winter coats are in full effect this week. The pink fur says everything about Jackson’s fit, as well as his mood, because you absolutely need a certain level of confidence to pull off a look this extravagant.

Jackson is wearing a “Seen” shirt with an image of the late Kobe Bryant sporting an orange afro. The more color, the merrier for Jackson. His jeans have stitching running through them that create a grid with a streak of white down the sides of each pant leg. Jackson made his return to the weekly style rankings with a bang.

Ibaka has a very mature swag. The all-black look from head to toe, minus the white T-shirt, makes it look like he’s all about his business. Ibaka isn’t new to fashion; he’s true to it. Here’s just another example of why that is.

To add, he’s got the gold bracelet-and-watch combination to go with the green Goyard toiletry bag.

Toscano-Anderson is in his first season with the Lakers, and his sense of style seems fitting for the bright lights of Los Angeles.

He matched the brown tee with the brown stripes in his jacket and Goyard bag and the salmon in his Nike Dunks with the designs on the lower half of his pants. From one Bay Area native to another, I noticed the NBA champion’s fits earlier this season, and I’m glad he finally made the cut this week.

Oubre is back in the rankings, this time wearing a sweater with lines that create an optical illusion. His red hat and red pants match the subtle splash of red in his sweater.

He’s got enough Cuban links to light up a room in the dark, as well as a ring, black nail paint and a bag from his Dope$oul brand. And you can’t go wrong with it Jordan 1s.

I’ve noticed there’s been an increasing number of requests for Grant fits, and he delivered this week. The striped dress shirt, black vest, skinny black tie and black dress pants is one of the many looks Grant has the range to pull off. Notice the pins he’s added to his vest for customization value.

Grant decided to cap things off with yellow suede sneakers. The pinky ring, watch and Goyard wallet are classy accessories for an even classier look. From here on out, we’re all invested in his fits throughout the season.

This has to be one of the flyest introductions to these rankings I can remember. The fur coat obviously sets the tone for this fit.

Gay’s also got the shades, the dress pants tailored to show his white socks, and the black dress shoes. It’s reminiscent of George Gervin or Clyde Drexler with their fur coats and top hats.

Alexander-Walker is becoming a regular on these lists, and it’s not hard to tell why. We’ve seen him in a Louis Vuitton letterman jacket, but never a yellow one. It’s got the smiley face logo on the front to go along with the classic “L” and “V” and the graffiti logo on the left arm.

I have to believe he was intentional about wearing the long white shirt to show under the jacket. And the camo pants and Jordans balance out the rest of the fit extremely well.

Duke isn’t an extremely well-known player in the league, but I imagine peers across the NBA in his same age group are familiar with his style. The Brooklyn Nets two-way player rocked a burgundy Rodeo Grand Prix letterman, with baggy, distressed pants and burgundy sneakers to match.

If Duke weren’t on a team with Patty Mills, I’d make a case for him being the coolest person in every room he’s in.
