While Russell Westbrook has been the one mentioned in the most trade rumors, other players on the Los Angeles Lakers roster could be leaving the franchise this offseason. Even LeBron James has been considered a tradeable piece for the Purple and Gold this summer, but we’re yet to discover if the team actually pulls the trigger on this move.
Meanwhile, people keep dropping names the Lakers can use to land another star, and Anthony Davis isn’t the exception. The talented big man has also been included in these rumors, with a trade to the Brooklyn Nets being on the table for him.
Whether it is for Kyrie Irving or Kevin Durant, Davis appears to be a good option for the Lakers to try to improve their roster. According to a Western Conference executive, some people within the organization want to see how much interest rivals have in the Brow to see if they can trade him. However, this would depend on what LeBron James does in the future.
“A lot of that depends on where LeBron winds up,” the executive told Sean Deveney of Heavy. “If he stays in Los Angeles and he stays a Laker, he had a lot personally invested in AD being there so, yes, in that case, Davis stays. But it is not a sure thing. There are some in that organization who wouldn’t mind seeing what they can bring back for AD, but they wouldn’t do it with LeBron there. You get to 2024, though, and maybe things will change.
“The Lakers have AD for two more years for sure, and they can only hope he stays healthy. But after that, they have to think, is this guy really our future? He can’t stay on the floor. And he has to think, do I want to be here without LeBron? That’s why the Lakers don’t want to give up those future picks.”
As usual, a lot of what the Lakers may or may not do in the near future relies on what LeBron James does. The King is yet to sign an extension and even though recent reports suggest he’s ready to extend his stay in SoCal, he hasn’t signed a new deal.
If he shockingly decides to leave Los Angeles, perhaps he won’t be alone, as Davis could be dealt somewhere else to start a new process. Time will tell how this situation develops and if the Lakers end up without a single star on the roster.
