The Los Angeles Lakers are a team that was disappointing this year. There’s no doubt that they overwhelmed many fans by missing the playoffs, as they were expected to be a championship-caliber team at the start of the season.
This summer, the Los Angeles Lakers have been linked with a number of trades. Adrian Wojnarowski has recently revealed that Rob Pelinka is still “very active” in trying to find ways to improve the roster, with a particular focus on adding 3PT shooters and big men to the roster.
Rob Pelinka has still been very active even kind of in the dog days of August. He’s been on the phone a lot. He’s still trying to find deals to bring in more shooting, perhaps some size. I think those conversations continue all the way into training camp and the start of the season. I still think this Lakers roster may look maybe not dramatically different but subtly different going into next season.
There is no doubt that adding shooting and size will benefit the Los Angeles Lakers. 3PT shooters are generally good fits with stars who operate near the paint such as LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, and Anthony Davis. Adding more size could also be beneficial, as an extra big man could reduce the wear and tear as well as the amount of time Anthony Davis plays the center position. That will allow Davis to play center in the playoffs for extended stretches and increases the chance of him remaining fully healthy. One move that could potentially help the Lakers add both of those elements is the previously reported trade scenario sending Russell Westbrook to the Pacers for Buddy Hield and Myles Turner.
The Los Angeles Lakers and Rob Pelinka are clearly trying to find ways to improve, and we’ll see what trades the team ends up executing. Hopefully, they are able to surround LeBron James and Anthony Davis with capable players that can help the superstar duo get back to the playoffs and potentially win another championship for the franchise.
