There are a lot of fantastic young players in the league today, and the league’s talent is at an all-time high. We have seen many players have insane runs in the playoffs this year, with top-tier performances from all around the league.
Two young wing players that have distinguished themselves in the playoffs are Brandon Ingram and Jaylen Brown. Ingram had a fantastic run as the No. 1 option on the New Orleans Pelicans this postseason averaging 27.0 PPG, 6.2 RPG, and 6.2 APG against the Phoenix Suns. Meanwhile, Jaylen Brown had some elite performances to help the Boston Celtics get to the NBA Finals himself, averaging 23.1 PPG, 6.9 RPG, and 3.5 APG.
A recent post by the Twitter page Hoop Central asked NBA fans whether they would prefer to have Brandon Ingram or Jaylen Brown to build a franchise around. Opinions seemed split, although fans seemed to lean towards selecting Brandon Ingram.
There is no doubt that this is a tough question, as both of these players are around the same age and are both elite at multiple facets of the game. Jaylen Brown has definitely had more team success than Brandon Ingram, but that isn’t always the indicator of which player is better. It is fair to say that Brown has the edge on 3PT 3PT shooting, defense, and finishing, while Brandon Ingram is better at playmaking, midrange scoring, and ballhandling.
It is quite likely that we will see both of these players find success next season. The New Orleans Pelicans will have Zion Williamson returning, and he and Brandon Ingram will likely make the Pelicans into a solid playoff team next year. Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics and Jaylen Brown will likely try to make it back to the NBA Finals, and the team notably added Malcolm Brogdon this summer. Hopefully, we see both Brandon Ingram and Jaylen Brown thrive next year, and perhaps we’ll see one of them get ahead and settle this debate.
