NBA champion Ian Clark signs with Adelaide 36ers in NBL

KAI Sotto’s Adelaide 36ers get a big shot in the arm midway through the 2022-23 NBL season with the signing of former NBA champion Ian Clark.

Clark was part of the Golden State Warriors team which won an NBA title in 2017 behind Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.

Aside from Golden State, the 31-year-old swingman also played for the Utah Jazz, Denver Nuggets, and New Orleans Pelicans where he spent his last two seasons from 2017 to 2019.

This is also not his first rodeo Down Under, having helped the Sydney Kings win the 2022 NBL crown last season.

And Clark is looking to bring the same level of success in Adelaide.

“I’m excited. This has been brewing for a little while, but I finally got things done,” he said. “I just want to plug in where I can and do what I can.”

“I’m just going to come in and be myself, I’m not going to do too much, last year it was kind of the same situation, coming in midseason. So I’m going to try and do the same thing, get myself to where I am needed, use my voice when it’s needed and just play basketball.”

Clark can make his 36ers debut as early as Christmas Eve against the Southeast Melbourne Phoenix on Saturday.

Big things are expected from him, especially with Adelaide winning its last two games as it currently holds an even 8-8 record.

The 36ers have gotten on a roll thanks to the steady plays of imports Rob Franks and Antonius Cleveland, locals Mitch McCarron and Daniel Johnson, and Sotto getting the start in the last two games.

Clark replaces the spot left by Craig Randall II who left the team early in the season.
