NBA 2K23 MyTeam Drops Its Most Controversial Card Series On Nov. 1

The NBA 2K23 MyTeam feature has become one of the most popular ways to play the ever-popular hoops series. If you’ve been MyTeam blind, a brief explanation of the feature goes as follows:

Collect virtual cards that are playable characters on your fantasy squad. You take these cards into single-player and multi-player games of multiple varieties to compete for and to earn special in-game rewards and in-feature currency.

You can also purchase in-game currency to buy virtual packs to improve your lineup, but what you pull from the packs is a game of chance.

It’s a fun and addictive experience that has its fans and detractors, but it’s big business nonetheless.

On Nov. 1, one of the feature’s most controversial series drops. It’s called Glitched, and the theme of this series has NBA players from the past and present who have exaggerated attributes in an area where they are or were weak in real life.

For example, the elder Ray Allen (Boston Celtics version) wasn’t the high-flyer that he was when he was a member of the Milwaukee Bucks. The Glitched version which comes out on Nov. 1 has glitched athleticism to make him more of a slashing threat to go with his noteworthy three-point marksmanship.

Here is a look at some of the cards that will be available in the Glitched series:

It’s a cool sort of what-if concept, but in the eyes of some, it marks the beginning of the attribute stretch that leads to a run of superheroes who aren’t human, let alone NBA players.

For some 2K fans, those players threaten the integrity of the game. Don’t get me wrong, these cards aren’t so overpowered that they fit the description above completely, but they are the mouth of the river that usually leads to a sea of Dark Matter centers with unreal handles and three-point accuracy.

Many 2K fans love playing with those cards, and I’m a part of that club to a degree. However, I would love to see the mode add a salary cap function that makes it impossible to put an entire team of these players into online competition.

The Glitched series marks the beginning of the madness, but when cards like Dark Matter Glitched Yao Ming from NBA 2K22 are so wildly popular, there is no end in sight.

Either get with the program or get off MyTeam.
