MVP Joel Embiid expected to return for Sixers vs. Celtics in Game 2

BOSTON–The Philadelphia 76ers are looking to take a 2-0 stranglehold in this series with the Boston Celtics before this series shifts to the Wells Fargo Center for Games 3 and 4 and they might have their MVP big man out on the floor for them.

Fresh off winning his first MVP award, Joel Embiid is expected to return from an LCL sprain in his right knee for Game 2 against the Celtics. The big fella got some work done on Tuesday in order to ramp up his return to the floor.

Although, the logic says that the Sixers should wait to bring Embiid back for Game 3 considering they already stole home-court advantage.

“It’s logical thinking, but players when they’re healthy, they should play,” said coach Doc Rivers. “When they’re not, they shouldn’t play. That would be my answer. I can guarantee you, if Joel’s playing, he’s healthy.”

When it comes to whether Embiid will wear a brace or not, Rivers isn’t entirely sure about that.

“I don’t know that, honestly,” said the coach. “He’s had it on and then he hasn’t had it on in two days so I don’t know the answer. We’ll find that out. I don’t ask. I don’t get involved.”

Tip-off from the TD Garden is set for 8 pm EDT.
