BOUCTOUCHE – The Canadiens will play their last preseason game against the Ottawa Senators in the Maritimes tonight.
Here’s five things you need to know heading into the game:
1. Martin St-Louis’ squad fell 4-3 to the Senators on Thursday in Gander, Newfoundland. The Canadiens overcame a 2-0 deficit with goals from the defenseman Kaiden Guhle and forward Kirby Dachthe latter of whom scored his first goal of the exhibition season.
However, the Senators potent offense restored their two-goal lead with tallies from Tim Stützle and Claude Giroux. Josh Anderson Notched his first goal of the preseason to make it 4-3, but the Habs were unable to make a comeback. Drake Batherson and Brady Tkachuk also scored for the Senators.
2. The game will be played in neutral territory at the JK Irving Center in Bouctouche, located north-east of Moncton. With Gander, the town was named one of two Kraft Hockeyville winners this year.
3. The Canadiens were back on the ice on Thursday in Moncton. Mike Matheson, Christian Dvorak and Mike Hoffman did not participate. The defenseman took a maintenance day, while both forwards sustained upper-body injuries and are listed as day-to-day. It remains to be seen whether head coach Martin St-Louis will bring changes to the lineup.
4. The Senators are clicking offensively despite several new faces on the team this season. Heading into tonight’s game, the Senators rank first in goals, are tied for second in assists with the Columbus Blue Jackets and are second in points in the NHL this preseason.
