Lumia update has leaked numerous details about the Surface Laptop 5 and Surface Pro 9. Both expected to arrive on October 12 at a broader hardware launch event, the pair should comprise four models, including the rumored Surface Pro 9 5G. For reference, the Surface Pro 9 5G is thought to rely on the Microsoft SQ3, a customized version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3.
By contrast, Aggiornamenti Lumia’s leak only contains references to the Surface Laptop 5 and Surface Pro 9 with Intel processors. Hence, it is becoming increasingly likely that Microsoft has moved away from offering AMD Ryzen APUs with the Surface Laptop series. Instead, the Surface Laptop 5 will launch with the Core i5-1235U and Core i7-1255U, two Alder Lake-U series processors with 15 W TDPs, 10 cores, 12 threads and 12 MB of L3 cache.
Surprisingly, the same applies to the 15-inch model. In other words, the Surface Laptop 3 13.5, Surface Laptop 5 15 and Surface Pro 9 will use identical processors, as well as 8 GB or 16 GB of RAM for consumer models. If Microsoft’s current strategy holds for its upcoming generation of machines, then business versions of the Surface Laptop 5 and Surface Pro 9 will be available with 32 GB of RAM too.
Moreover, the trio will retain their predecessor’s display resolutions. In fact, the leaked image above suggests that Microsoft has not even reduced the bezel thickness of the Surface Laptop 5, a design decision that ages the Surface Laptop 4. Currently, it is unclear whether the Surface Laptop 5 will feature 120 Hz panels, too . Separately, Aggiornamenti Lumia asserts that Microsoft will sell the Surface Pro 9 series in Black, Forest, Graphite, Platinum and Sapphire colourways. Incidentally, pricing has already leaked for the Surface Laptop 5 and Surface Pro 9, which we discussed last month.
