Trevor Moore signed a five-year, $21 million contract with the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday. It has an average annual value of $4.2 million and begins next season.
The 27-year-old forward is playing the final season of a two-year, $1.875 million contract ($937,500 AAV) he signed on July 24, 2021. He could have become an unrestricted free agent after this season.
“It just feels great to have the support of an organization like that,” Moore said. “I’m super grateful.”
Moore scored the winning goal in the seventh round of the shootout for the Kings in their 3-2 win at the Boston Bruins on Thursday. He has 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists) in 33 games this season after having an NHL career-high 48 points (17 goals, 31 assists) in 81 games last season.
He was acquired by Los Angeles in a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Feb. 5, 2020, after signing with Toronto as a free agent on July 26, 2016.
“Good things happen to good people,” Kings coach Todd McLellan said. “We can talk about the player; I prefer to talk about the person really, because he means a lot to the organization. He’s a quality human being. He gives everything he has off the rink to the team and the community, to his teammates , and then everything he does on the ice is pretty evident if you’re a fan and you have a favorite based on work ethic… I’m happy for him and his family.”
Moore has 107 points (42 goals, 65 assists) in 237 games across five NHL seasons with the Maple Leafs and Kings, and six points (three goals, three assists) in 14 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
“I want to be here,” Moore said. “I didn’t want to have to go anywhere else, so it’s a good feeling to just get it done, and just focus on hockey and winning games.”
