A mobile repairman and his accomplice have been arrested for stealing two phones from a house in Bapu Dham Colony.
The accused have been identified as Ricky alias Sagar (22) of Small Flat, Dhanas, and Mehtab of Bapu Dham Colony (BDC).
Police had registered a complaint based on the statement of one Nanhe of BDC. He had told the police that his and his friend’s mobile phones had been stolen from his house while they were sleeping. He added that the thieves had entered the house by breaking the lock of the main door.
Police later arrested Ricky and recovered the stolen phones. Police said that he is a habitual offender and is already facing trial in two more theft cases.
After interrogating him, they nabbed Mehtab and recovered eight more stolen phones.
Police said that Ricky stole the phones and sold them to Mehtab, who repairs phones in Sector 22.
Police said that Mehtab took out spare parts from the stolen phones and fitted them in the mobile phones of customers.
The duo has been booked for theft at the Sector 26 police station. They were produced in court and sent to judicial custody.
Teen held for theft
Meanwhile, the police arrested a teenager for stealing a mobile phone. The accused has been identified as Mohammed Altaf alias Sonu, 19, of EWS Colony, Dhanas.
He was booked by Sarangpur police based on the statement of one Sumit of EWS Colony, Dhanas.

Delhi Police busts gang of cyber frauds, 65 arrested
Sixty-five people were arrested and bound down under a warrant for allegedly duping over 200 people on the pretext of updating their electricity bills, police said here on Thursday. The arrests were made in raids conducted in 22 cities across the country in the last 10 days. The accused duped these people by installing a remote access software in their victims’ mobile phones and accessing their OTPs, or one time passwords, police said.

The Punjab government will bring a law to prevent the sale of duplicate and substandard pesticides, fertilizers and seeds to save agriculture and stop malpractices, said agriculture minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Thursday. He also warned that if any officer is found involved in any malpractices, they will not be spared. The government also plans to introduce a trace and tracking system for complete monitoring of pesticides, fertilizers and seeds from production to the farmer.
