A mobile phone was recovered from an inmate of Ludhiana Central Jail during a checking by assistant superintendent of jail Jasveer Chand.
The Division Number 7 police booked the accused— Sohail Khan of Giaspura under Section 52-A(1) of the Prisons Act for illegally keeping the cell phone inside his prison.
In another case, Shimlapuri police booked unidentified persons under the Prisons Act after the superintendent of observation home recovered an abandoned packet containing four bundles of locally made cigarettes (go), packets of mouth fresheners, six packets of Gold Flake cigarettes and a lighter from the main ground of the observation home.

Ludhiana logs 31 new Covid cases in the district
As many as 31 new Covid cases were reported in Ludhiana on Wednesday. Currently, there are 226 active cases, of which 215 patients are under home isolation and 11 are undergoing treatment at a private facility. GADVASU trains 74 farmers rained in shrimp, pangas and carp farming
A three-day training on ‘Best Management Practices for Shrimp Farming in Inland Saline Areas’ was conducted at the College of Fisheries, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), for 20 fish and shrimp farmers from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. Course coordinator, Prabjeet Singh, said shrimp farming in salt-affected degraded lands had revolutionized aquaculture expansion in the north-western region of the country, with a huge profit margin of 3-5 lakh per acre in 100-120 days.

Heavy rains cause Kolhapur varsity to reschedule exams
Following heavy downpour, flooding was witnessed in western Maharashtra districts since the last two days, prompting a Kolhapur University to suspend the exams scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. Administration of Shivaji University at Kolhapur has decided to reschedule the exams due to the recent heavy rainfall and flooding in western Maharashtra regions. University authorities said new dates will be declared for exams which were originally scheduled for August 10 and August 11.

RBI cancels license of Rupee Co-operative Bank
The order will be effective after six weeks from September 22. The RBI in its press release said, “Rupee bank stands prohibited from conducting the business of ‘banking’ which includes, among other things, acceptance of deposits and repayment of deposits as defined in section 5(b) read with section 56 of Banking Regulation Act 1949 with effect from September 22, 2022.” Bhalchandra Kulkarni, a member of the depositors’ association, called the RBI order unfortunate and incomprehensible.
