Mobile, data numbers: apart from MTN & GLO, Vodafone & AirtelTigo lose

The country’s total mobile voice penetration reached 40,988,879 at the end of June this year.

This represents a marginal increase of 0.10 percent over the May figure of 40,948,931.

The latest market statistics posted by the National Communications Authority (NCA), therefore, puts the country’s mobile penetration at 130.37 percent as at the second half of the year.

Gainers

MTN’s voice subscriber figures for June stood at 25.8 million, representing a percentage increase of 0.42 percent over the May figure of 25.7 million.

Subsequently, MTN’s market share for the month under review was 63.06 per cent, making it the most dominant player in the highly competitive industry.

Glo’s voice subscriptions increased from 794,288 as at the end of May to 989,965 at the end of June, indicating a percentage increase of 24.64 per cent.

It’s market share for the month under review was 2.42 percent.

Losers

Vodafone Ghana was among the two telecommunications companies to record a loss in voice subscriber numbers as its mobile voice subscriber numbers decreased from 7.4 million as at the end of May 2022 to 7.3 million as at the end of June 2022.

That represented a percentage decrease of 1.53 percent.

Vodafone, however, maintained its spot as the second largest in the industry with a market share of 17.87 percent.

AirtelTigo also saw its subscribers decrease from 6.97 million as at the end of May 2022 to 6.8 million as at the end of June 2022.

That reflected a percentage decrease of 2.17 percent.

It’s total market share for the month under review was 16.66 per cent as compared to 17.04 per cent in June 2022.

Data for market statistics

On the other hand, mobile data penetration stood at 23,577,601 at the end of June this year.

This puts the county’s data penetration rate at 74.99 percent.

MTN ended the month of June with 17 million mobile data subscriptions.

It’s market share for the month under review also stood at 72.16 percent.

The total number of subscriptions for Vodafone’s mobile data in June 2022 was 3.2 million, reflecting a market share of 13.52 per cent.

AirtelTigo’s mobile data subscriptions for June 2022 were 3.1 million bringing its market share for the month to 13.29 percent.

Glo recorded data subscription figures of 244,109 at the end of June, representing a market share of 1.04 percent.
