  • Team is still in first place in the AL East with a seven-game lead over Blue Jays

Yankees manager Aaron Boone was unable to hide his anger Saturday after another loss, slamming a table at a press conference following a 5-2 defeat to the Blue Jays.

The Yankees are 4-14 in the month of August, and Boone made it clear after the game just how frustrated he is.

‘We got to play better, period,’ Boone said before hitting the table.

‘And the great thing is it’s right in front of us. We can fix it. It’s right here.’

Despite fielding a lineup with sluggers Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo, the Yankees have scored just 3.2 runs per game this month, and are now just 21-29 in their last 50 games after a blistering start to the season.

The Yankees are dealing with a host of injuries, including to All-Star Giancarlo Stanton, but Boone insisted they ‘have the dudes’ to get back to winning ways.

The Yankees (73-48) remain in first place in the AL East, although the Jays’ win on Saturday brings them to within seven games.

Despite his frustration at the result, Boone acknowledged the team is still in good shape – if they can improve their play.

‘The good thing is, we are in first place,’ he said.

‘We got the pen… we get to write the script the rest of the way. No one else can get in our way if we go play our game.’
