Aaron Judge’s American League record-setting 62nd home run ball is set to go to auction.
The attorney for Cory Youmans, the Texas man who caught Judge’s home run on Oct. 4 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, told ESPN’s Jeff Passan that his client has already turned down a $3 million offer for the ball.
Youmans, 35, told Passan that after weeks of conversations with his wife, sports reporter Bri Amaranthus, and his lawyer, they decided to sell the ball with Goldin Auctions house.
“It seems fair in the sense it gives anyone who is interested and has the means the opportunity to own it,” Youmans said. “As a fan, I’m curious to see what it’s worth, who buys it and what they do with it.”
Youmans’ backstory and his decision to leave $3 million on the table and head to auction has elicited a lot of reactions from fans.
“This story is crazy! Would you sell it for 3 miles?” one asked.
“Turning down 3 mill is actually crazy,” a Yankees fan noted.
“Turning down how much for a baseball?” asked Yankee fan and former blogger Ben Kabak.
“Turning down 3M has a potential for an all-time bag fumble,” said Charlie from “Tapping the Keg Sports.”
“Who wants to go in on this with me?” asked another Yankee fan.
Youmans’ decision went public on the same day Judge is expected to win the 2022 AL MVP award. The New York Yankees’ slugger broke Roger Maris’ 61-year-old AL record by hitting 62 bombs during a career year.
