MLB The Show is set to reveal the cover athlete for their latest installment on Monday as the reveal will likely serve as the official announcement for MLB The Show 2023. The last Chicago Cubs player to be honored with the cover of the critically acclaimed video game was shortstop Javier Baez as he was the featured player for MLB The Show 20.

It would seem unlikely that any current member of the Chicago Cubs’ active roster will be featured on the cover of this year’s game but an interesting thought exercise is wondering who will be the next Cub to be featured on the cover.
The answer could very well be Cubs’ right fielder Seiya Suzuki. Suzuki is entering his second full season in Major League Baseball and there is an expectation that he will progress closer to being the superstar player that he was in Japan. If Suzuki does make that jump, then he will become the clear-cut favorite on the Cubs’ roster to be the next cover athlete for MLB The Show.

There is no question that the St. Louis Cardinals enter the 2023 season as the clear favorites to win the National League Central. The argument can be made, however, that the Cubs have jumped the Milwaukee Brewers in terms of being a threat to the Cardinals. The Cincinnati Reds have no interest in contending and while the Pittsburgh Pirates have surprisingly spent a decent amount of money this offseason, they still have a few seasons to go before being relevant in the division.

Davis being fully healthy at the start of the 2023 season is certainly an important milestone for the Cubs’ outfield prospect. Davis’ back issues, which lingered for the duration of the 2022 season, have led to him losing his top prospect status within the Cubs’ organization and many talent evaluators have moved the center fielder down their power rankings. If Davis can find his hitting success with Triple-A Iowa in the first half, then he certainly will be a candidate to reach the Major League level in the second half.
