There was a question on whether Carlos Rodon would still be on the Giants at this point, and we even saw that emotional moment where he hugged his teammates on his last start before the trade deadline. He remains in San Fransisco and is in the middle of one of his best stretches, going 4-0 with a 1.44 ERA in his last five starts. He would love to see a repeat of his previous performance against the Padres as he went the whole nine and tied a season-high 12 strikeouts.
Mike Clevinger came back from Tommy John this year and was looking good at the beginning, but over the last two months, he’s been trending downward, going 2-5 with a 4.03 ERA with hitters batting .277. If you look through his game log, you will see he has not been able to come away with effective outings against good lineups.
The Giants lineup has been in that lower tier, so Clevinger should put up a good performance, but he’ll need to be nearly perfect against Rodon.
