MLB prop parlays for Saturday 8/20

It’s a packed day of baseball, and we’re approaching the slate with a handful of prop parlays. The first will utilize FanDuel’s alternate strikeout market, pairing three pitchers at lower totals than their listed line. We’ll wrap the day with a few of our favorite players to get a hit.

Wait for lineups to confirm your hit parlays!

Kris Bubic 4+ Ks, Reid Detmers 5+ Ks, Cristian Javier 6+ Ks (+112 FD)

We’ll start with Detmers, as he is the first to toe the rubber at 1:10 pm ET. Detmers actually has 6+ strikeouts in eight straight starts, so we bump it down to five to offer us a safe floor.

Detmers is facing the Tigers, a team fanning at the 12th-highest rate against LHP in the past 30 days. Not only are they striking out at a higher rate, but they’ve struggled hitting lefties, adding confidence to Detmers giving us six innings this afternoon. Detmers is over 5+ Ks in four straight road starts.

Bubic’s strikeout line is 5.5, so we’ve brought it down two to a reasonable four. He has reached this number in nine straight games and 12 of his last 13 starts. He’s really turned on the strikeouts of late, finishing with 6+ Ks in four straight.

He draws a favorable opponent today in the Rays, who are striking out at the 5th-highest rate vs LHP over the past month. Bubic started against the Rays in July, finishing with four strikeouts.

Javier has 6+ strikeouts in seven of his last nine starts. The Houston hurler is here for two reasons, the first being his opponent in the Braves. Atlanta’s strikeout rate against RHP ranks second-highest this year and in the last 30 days, and three straight righty starters have exceeded 6 Ks.

Javier’s Ks/inning rank in the 90th percentile and his swinging strike rate is in the 79th percentile. He should be able to take advantage of this strikeout-heavy lineup, and if we can get just five innings out of him, he should be able to get to this number.

Laddered for .5u: Bubic 5+, Detmers 6+, Javier 7+ (+348 FD)

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. & Paul Goldschmidt 1+ hit each (-102 FD)

This is one of my favorite hit parlays I’ve constructed yet as this combination really does feel good Saturday.

First, Vlad Guerrero is hitting .381 off starter Gerrit Cole in 24 plate appearances. The Blue Jays slugger is absolutely rolling, with a hit in 27 of his last 30 games. I’ll gladly take both that hit-rate and the history against Cole for our first leg.

Goldy, the NL MVP favorite, is on an absolute tear right now. He has a hit in 21 of his last 30 games, but has piled up nine hits in his last four games. He’s hitting .342 against Madison Bumgarner in 87 plate appearances since 2017, and is whacking LHP to the tune of a .438 average this season.

Pete Alonso & Nick Castellanos 1+ hit each (+106 FD)

This is for the first game of the Phillies-Mets doubleheader.
If you’ve decided to join the ride here, make sure you are loading up these two gentlemen from the early Phillies-Mets game, as they play twice on Saturday.

The reason we’re targeting Alonso and Castellanos in the 1 pm game is their history against the afternoon starters.

Alonso is hitting .409 in 27 plate appearances vs. Zack Wheeler, while Castellanos has a .350 average against Trevor Williams in 22 plate appearances. Alonso has a hit in 20 of his last 30 games and has a better average against righties, which Wheeler is. Castellanos has a hit in eight straight and 22 of his last 30 games.

Willy Adames & Cedric Mullins 1+ hit each (-112 FD)

Willy Adames has had success against Marcus Stroman, who he’ll see start Saturday’s game against the Cubs. In 11 plate appearances, Adames has a .545 average against Stroman. Coupling that history is Adames coming into this with a hit in 21 of his last 30 games, and a better average against RHP.

Mullins is here for a similar reason. He’s hitting .455 off Michael Wacha in 12 plate appearances, and has a hit in 20 of his last 30 and a better average against righties.

That will do it for our day on the diamond. Good luck.
