MLB Playoffs rewind: Yankees punch ALCS ticket, Phillies jump ahead in the NLCS

Welcome to the Battle of Who Will Be in the World Series. It’s Yankees vs. Astros in the American League, which is a series with some serious narratives. It’s Phillies vs. Padres in the National League, which is … a series that decides who gets to claim John Kruk.

OK, there might be different levels of animosity and history between the respective franchises in each series, but that’s the beauty of it. After this season, Phillies and Padres fans will never be able to think of each other again. Maybe in seven generations, they’ll forget, but until then, strap in. Phillies-Padres means something. And Yankees-Astros definitely means something.

This will be the last installment of my recaps of the first two rounds, but you can catch all of The Athletic’s coverage for the next two rounds here. If you enjoyed these, thanks for reading! Because of the rain in New York on Monday, you get bonus content of Game 1 of the NLCS.

Here’s what happened in Tuesday’s action:

New York vs. Cleveland: Yankees jump on Guardians early, cruise to Game 5 win
