Ohonly 14 MLB teams have managed to win at least two World Series in a succession, making it difficult enough to win one World Series. Furthermore, no team has done so for 22 straight seasons after that Atlanta Braves‘ loss in the NL Division Series in 2022.
In Major League Baseball‘s 146-year history, there have been some terrific feats. The New York Yankees are the most successful team in the history of MLB, winning 27 World Series Championships, and having several runs where they won the championships in succession.
New York Yankees hold the record for consecutive World Series victories
With five straight World Series wins between 1949 and 1953, the Yankees marked the most dominant era in Major League Baseball history.
The Yankees have three straight World Series victories (1998-2000). They’ve won four straight World Series (1936-39). Moreover, they have the greatest championship streak in MLB history after winning five straight World Series.
The end of the Joe DiMaggio era and the beginning of the Mickey Mantle era were both part of this Yankees dynasty. Joltin’ Joe earned his final three rings between 1949 and 1951, while a youthful Mantle earned his first three between 1951 and 1953. Yogi Berra and Phil Rizzutotwo more Yankee superstars, played on each of the five championship squads.
Three World Series victories over the Dodgers (one to start the streak in 1949 and two to conclude it in 1952 and 1953) served as the bookends for the Yankees’ run, with the other two victories coming against the Phillies in 1950 and the San Francisco Giants in 1951.
Only Brooklyn in 1952 forced the Yankees to seven games, pocket Mantle‘s first two of his record-breaking 18 World Series home runs in his career determined the outcome of Games 6 and 7.
