MLB News: Which are the five biggest contracts in MLB history?

Aaron Judge will become one of the highest paid players in MLB history after re-signing with the New York Yankees. The 30-year-old outfielder decided to stay put after enjoying an impressive season at the Big Apple.

After reports emerged that Judge and the Yankees reached an agreement for the MLB star to continue his career in New York, MARCA have put together the list with the five largest contracts in MLB history.

Mike Trout (Los Angeles Angels) – $426.5 million for 12 years

In 2019, Mike Trout agreed to sign a $426.5 million, 12 year deal with the Los Angeles side. The three-time American League MVP winner has yet to shine in the postseason due to the team’s situation.

Mookie Betts (Los Angeles Dodgers): $365 million for 12 years

After winning the World Series with the Boston Red Sox and earning the MVP award, Betts set course for the West Coast, signing a $365 million, 12-year contract with the Dodgers. He made an immediate impact as the team won the World Series against the Tampa Bay Rays in 2020.

Aaron Judge (New York Yankees): $360 million for nine years

When the season ended, Aaron Judge became a free agent in search of a lucrative deal. Jon Heyman reported that the San Fransisco Giants had won the race to sign him, something Judge himself denied. Judge finally opted to remain at the Yankees, signing a $360 million, nine-year contract.

Francisco Lindor (New York Mets): $341 million for 10 years

The Mets were looking for a player who could help the team bounce back. Francisco Lindor agreed to a 10-year contract extension in 2021 in exchange for $341 million. Under Steven Cohen, the Mets were ready to compete again. However, luck was not on their side this season, as they lost in the wild-card round to the San Diego Padres.

Fernando Tatis Jr. (San Diego Padres): $340 million for 14 years

In 2021, Fernando Tatis Jr. made it onto the highest paid players list after signing a lucrative $340 million deal for 14 years. However, this season the player was suspended for 80 games after testing positive for a banned substance. With the arrival of Juan Soto, Tatis Jr. now takes a back seat and he is expected to struggle in his bid to become Padres’ leader again.
