MLB free agent Carlos Correa looked to be an inevitable member of the New York Mets but contract talks could have reached breaking point.

Correa and the Queens franchise had agreed to a 12-year, $315 million deal over two weeks ago but the situation is becoming close to dire.

According to SNY insider Andy Martino, the Mets have become ‘very frustrated’ during negotiations, with the possibility of abandoning any plausible contract.

A team source cited by SNY says New York ‘is now considering walking away altogether.’ Although another source mentioned despite the current difficulties there is a ‘strong chance’ an agreement is reached.

It is said that contract language is currently the sticking point with the franchise reportedly having concerns over Correa’s surgically repaired right leg.

Despite initial belief the contractual numbers would be dramatically different, the nine-figure deal is unlikely to change much with the Mets said to be covering their backs with contractual language.

Correa suffered a nasty injury to the area while in Houston’s minor league system. It has caused difficulty for the star earlier this offseason as San Francisco belatedly pulled out of a deal.

The former Houston Astros and Minnesota Twins shortstop, previously agreed to a 13-year, $350m contract with the San Francisco Giants, who raised similar concerns about his physical before scrapping the deal altogether.

‘They have a full account of the player prior to doing anything that has to do with offers,’ Correa’s agent, Scott Boras said. Got a long letter passing him, and with that came a recommendation for over a 10-year contract.

‘So that was the known of the Minnesota team physician who was with him all year long.’

Boras maintained Correa’s 2014 surgery to repair a broken right tibia should not have been an issue. dr. Kevin Varner, chairman of the Department of Orthopedics at Houston Methodist Hospital, operated on Correa.

‘He talked and was available to talk about the stability and functionality of what he felt,’ Boras said. ‘The player has never, ever had any form of treatment, anything to do with anything about that since that occurred when he was 19 years old.’

Mets owner Steve Cohen quickly swooped in after San Francisco pulled out, adding Correa.

The Puerto Rican has reportedly agreed to play third base alongside well-established shortstop Francisco Lindor.
