It has recently come to light that MLB may have a diversity problem.
There are lots of Black, Asian, and Latino players, that’s for sure, but those making the calls at front office positions are mostly White.
This is not to say there aren’t a few exceptions, but the split is more pronounced towards White individuals when we look at managers, general managers, owners, and team presidents, for example.
MLB does appear to be willing to invest time and resources to change that situation.

It will be very interesting to see what the MLB University project is all about.
Could MLB Create Enhanced Opportunities For Minorities?
For now, there aren’t too many details of it, but it could represent an opportunity for minorities to have a chance at proving their worth and, why not, aspiring for MLB jobs in a front office or an on-field role, like coaches or managers.
It will be interesting to see how teams respond to this, too.
Baseball is a sport in which traditions can last for decades.
For as long as baseball has existed, the manager and coach positions have been held by former players with ample playing experience.
Will teams be open to pursue a recent graduate from the MLB University to fulfill a coaching gig, even if it is in the minor leagues?
Organizations will need to keep an open mind about the project, but the idea sounds enticing on paper.
