Tuesday night saw a league-wide run-scoring barrage the likes of which haven’t been seen since Grover Cleveland was the US president.

When the Minnesota Twins finished the high-scoring evening with a 10-3 shellacking of the Seattle Mariners, they became the 12th team to score 10 or more runs Tuesday night. In all, four games featured both teams scoring 10 or more runs, which ties an all-time MLB record.

The 12 teams scoring at least 10 runs is a Modern Era (since 1900) record, per the Elias Sports Bureau.

Just look at the pitching-staff pummeling that went down in ballyards Tuesday night:

You have to go back to 1894 to see an offensive outburst this prolific. On July 4 of that year, 13 different teams − with four games of both teams plating 10 or more runs − scored 10-plus runs. Every team played a doubleheader that day − it was the Fourth of July, after all. Imagine the fun being had at Chicago’s West Side Grounds that day when the hometown Colts defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 16-10 in the opener, but the Phillies won the second game 12-11 for a grand total of 49 combined runs!

Five days later − and not with the benefit of doubleheaders − four games featured both teams scoring 10 or more runs.
