Asdrubal Cabrera took a swing at an opposing player

During the Venezuelan Winter League, a brawl took place between players during a game between Caribes de Azoategui and Tiburones De La Guaira. It started when Cabrera, playing for Caribes de Azoategui, took exception to opponent player Carlos Castro’s home run celebration. In retaliation for the celebration, Cabrera landed a punch on Castro as he was rounding first base. This escalated into a brawl as players from both teams got involved.

Cabrera has since issued an apology for the brawl that MLB insider Hector Gomez shared in a Tweet. Cabrera said, “I’m sorry for my behavior in the game last Sunday. My actions were not consistent with what my career has been at all levels that I have played in baseball. I have no justification for what I did, I am pretty sorry”.

Regardless of what happens with this incident, Cabrera’s career in the big league is almost over. Notably, he did not get picked up by an MLB team for the 2022 season. Since Cabrera has accepted his wrong behavior, it will be interesting to see what punishment he will face from the league.
